Since 1991, the artist Tjibbe Hooghiemstra [born 1957] has lived and worked in the Netherlands and Ireland. After graduating [BA] from the Minerva Academy of Arts in Groningen, the Netherlands, he continued his studies at the St Lucas Academy in the city of Ghent, Belgium [MA], after which he worked as a teacher of art in several institutes, including the universities of Cork, Dublin and Sligo in Ireland, the Academy of Belfast in Northern Ireland and the Academies of Enschede and Groningen in the Netherlands, where he works as a lecturer until today.

In 2011 Hooghiemstra participated in the influential exhibition All About Drawing, a retrospective of the past 50 years of Dutch drawing art, at the Stedelijk Museum in Schiedam. His most recent solo exhibition Sandy Island toured at Oriel Q - Queens Hall Gallery, Narberth, Wales, [2014] Galerie @ Koninklijke Villa, Oostende, Belgium, [2014] Galerie Hoogenbosch, Gorredijk, the Netherlands [2014] and Hillsboro Fine Art, Dublin, Ireland [2015].

In 2005, Tjibbe Hooghiemstra participated in Into Drawing, a retrospective of contemporary Dutch drawing artists. After opening in the Netherlands, this exhibition toured to several European locations, including the Institut Néerlandai in Paris, the NIKE in Florence and Schloss Moyland in Bedburg-Hau, in Germany.

Tjibbe Hooghiemstra’s work is exhibited worldwide. Outside Europe, he is represented in New York by Freight + Volume Gallery, and in Tokyo he is represented by Yanagisawa Gallery. His work has been exhibited at several major international art fairs, including FIAC Paris, Art Forum Berlin, Scope Los Angeles and ART Basel. His work is included in several private and public collections, amongst which, in the Netherlands, are the Teylers Museum in Haarlem, the Fries Museum in Leeuwarden, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
